PMI(R) - Project Management
Institute
The Project Management Institute(R), founded in 1969, has published numerous standards
related to project management, and manages several levels of project management
certifications. Although not specifically tailored to software development
project management, many organizations have benefited from certifying their project
managers in the PMI.
IEEE CS - Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Computer Society
The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers is the worlds leading professional
association for the advancement of technology.
ISO - International Organization
for Standardization
The International Organization for Standards, or ISO, was founded in 1947.
It's Geneva, Switzerland headquarters produces world-wide industrial and commercial
standards for the 158-countries that are represented in its memberships.
ISO 9000 is a quality standard for the manufacturing industry.
ISO 9000-3 is software quality management standard developed in 1977 that has now
been replaced by ISO 90003.
ISO 90003 is a software quality management standard introduced in 2004.
ISO 9126 is an international standard for the evaluation of software.
ACM - Association for Computing
Machinery
The Association for Computing Machinery provides leading-edge publications, conferences,
and career resources for advancing computing as a science and a profession.
SIM - Society for Information
Management
The Society for Information Management is a national organization connecting IT

SOFTWARE SECURITY ORGANIZATIONS
SANS Institute
SANS maintains a series of assessments of secure coding skills in three languages
along with certification exams that allow programmers to determine gaps in their
knowledge of secure coding and allows buyers to ensure outsourced programmers have
sufficient programming skills. Organizations with more than 500 programmers can
assess the secure coding skills of up to 100 programmers at no cost.
MITRE
MITRE maintains the CWE (Common Weakness Enumeration) web site, with the support
of the US Department of Homeland Security's National Cyber Security Division, presenting
detailed descriptions of the top 25 programming errors along with authoritative
guidance for mitigating and avoiding them. That site also contains data on more
than 700 additional programming errors,
design errors and architecture errors that
can lead to exploitable vulnerabilities.
SAFECode
SAFECode - The Software Assurance Forum for Excellence in Code (members include
EMC, Juniper, Microsoft, Nokia, SAP and Symantec) has produced two excellent publications
outlining industry best practices for software assurance and providing practical
advice for implementing proven methods for secure software development.

Gartner - The Gartner Group
Gartner, originally called the Gartner Group, was founded in 1979 and launched publicly
in the 1980's. They are an information and technology research and advisory
firm.
IDC - International Data Corporation
IDC is a market research and analysis firm specializing in information technology,

Forrester Research is an independent technology and market research company that

Cutter Consortium
